About James

James Knight is the Founder and Creator of Gentle Somatic Yoga®. He has been an E-RYT, CHSE (Certified Hanna Somatic Educator), and Integrative Therapist for 30 years. James’ passion is to inspire and encourage others to live a fulfilling life of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual freedom.

From his combined experience as a lifelong yogi, intuitive bodyworker, body-oriented psychotherapist, and movement educator James created a method of integrating what he discovered to be the most progressive, life-enhancing techniques into an embodied practice of mindful movement. Gentle Somatic Yoga was born out of years of exploring means of connecting with the deepest aspects of himself and sharing his experience with others.

As an architectural, interior, and landscape designer, Master Feng Shui consultant, and professional nature photographer, James enjoys designing sacred spaces and other creative endeavors that reflect his spiritual aesthetic. On a personal level, he enjoys spending quality time with loved ones while cultivating and energizing conscious community.

Before the recent pandemic James spent much of his time traveling the world facilitating Teacher Training Certifications, Workshops, and Spiritual & Cultural Immersion Retreats. Now he offers many of his trainings and events ONLINE as well as offering virtual one-on-one customized sessions. Please join him and experience GSY for yourself!

About Gentle Somatic Yoga®

Gentle Somatic Yoga® (GSY) incorporates therapeutic yoga & somatic movements that are slow, mindful and help amplify bodily awareness so it can self-heal. This allows the practitioner to self-correct and permanently release persistent stress-based patterns from within their body (Soma).

Instead of stretching muscles, GSY utilizes the technique of pandiculation to reprogram muscles to their most optimal length in a resting position. The restorative sequences, called Somatic Movement Flows®, are ideal for unwinding stiffness, pain and postural imbalances, and will dramatically increase flexibility through brain-to-muscle re-education. From this place of new-found freedom, we naturally return to our generative state of peace and well-being.

GSY has been synthesized by Movement Educator and Yoga Teacher James Knight, E-RYT, CHSE. His progressive method is the synergy of Hanna Somatic Education, hatha yoga, meditation, and Core Energetics (body-oriented psychotherapy), as well as principles ascribed to quantum mechanics. James’ creation has been inspired from the work of Eleanor Criswell Hanna, Thomas Hanna, Moshe Feldenkrais, Lawrence Gold, Tom Myers, as well as others.
