Always stop any Yoga practice if you feel it is not serving you to the highest regard.
Guidelines for Healing & Recovery
Find what is appropriate for YOUR state of health
- Age is not a parameter when deciding what movement practices are best for you to participate in; Instead, your physical abilities should guide you to the practice that will serve your current health needs
- The beauty of Yoga is that it is non-competitive, which means you don’t need to compare yourself to anyone else; Additionally, you shouldn’t compete with yourself thinking you should be doing more or less because you are of a certain age
- Trust your inner wisdom because you are always in control of your own health and well-being
For all Healing and Recovery
- Move other parts of your body to assist oxygen flow to the injured or affected area; Circulation is important for the healing process
- Make sure to give your body adequate amounts of rest; Guided Meditations can help ease anxiety and worry
Surgical and Wound Healing
- Always follow the movement guidelines of your healthcare professionals before starting any exercise program
- Gentle movements to the incision area can help reduce scar tissue build-up; gently massage the area before and after stretching to encourage elasticity
- Do NOT over-extend into any stretch; Always back off if you feel any tightness, tension or pain
- Move in and out of stretches rather than holding a stretch for a long time; This will signal the body that it is not being threatened by injury
Fracture Healing
- Stabilization is key to allowing bones to heal in proper alignment, so always follow your doctor’s guidance.
