Take your leg 6-8 inches across your body, keeping your hips level (parallel to the floor), to target the IT Band.
Take your leg fully across your body to target the Piriformis Muscle.
Release your leg outward to open your hips. If needed, your bottom leg can be bent (with your foot flat on the floor and knee up) to help stabilize your lower back.
